Name of
Doll: 16 1/2" Kestner XI Pouty NEW!
All original condition: Closed Mouth!
Description:
This is an awesome doll and something not easily found---an absolutely authentic condition Kestner XI pouty on a straight wristed body. She has extremely deep modeling and was definitely the first out of her mold!
The XI is a very early mold by the JDKestner company and predated the Kestner Letter/Mold Number combination we are all familiar with. The XI mold is known for beautiful china painting and HUGE eyes--both of which are features of this example. SHe also has the typical chubby, full cheeked face with a double chin.
Her clothing is factory and great--a fashionable SILK plaid dress with cranberry velvet ribbon inserts and silk edging. Back is adorned with a wide cranberry silk tie and huge bow. Under is her original one-piece chemise with a pintucked lace edged top! Her socks are rayon knit and her original shoes are Kestner fancy strap slippers. Her hat is fabulous! It is a cranberry heavy velvet with satin trim and velvet fruit.
Wig is platimum blonde mohair in excellent original condition, Rembrandt style with bangs over her original plaster pate. Her cornflower blue eyes still sleep and she has beautifully painted upper and lower lashes; exquisitely painted closed mouth with darker line between her lips.
Marks:
Head:
XI (at the upper rim)
Body: original Kestner straight wristed body
Condition:
Generally excellent. Her china painting is exquisite--very soft and delicate: exactly what these dolls are known and prized for! Clothing is in very good condition, very clean and bright colors. As would be expected there are a couple areas where the cranberry silk has worn; the plaid silk in the body of the dress is near perfect! Shoes show some wear and are missing their pompons. Body is in original finish except for the forearms which have an early repaint.
This is an exquisite example of one of Kestner's premiere early dolls---she is a real find for the collector who wants something truly special for his/her collection!

Name of
Doll: 23" KESTNER 146 NEW!
ALL
ANTIQUE: fabulous wig and clothing
Description:
This doll with the incredibly beautiful face is an example of the fine quality dolls by the Johannes D. Kestner firm of Germany. Made at the end of the 1800's, she is a premiere example, not only of this mold but of a German doll made at the height of the industry. And this is a particularly fine example: her modeling is one of the crispest you will find: the incision is deep and her facial features are beautiful!
She has creamy very, very pale bisque with slightly blushed cheeks,
heavy multistroked brows, painted upper and lower lashes. Her brown sleep
eyes are one of her best features! Original blond mohair wig is in wonderful condition, still very full with long banana curls--even the bangs are full and still curled!
Her original dress is off-white handerchief cotton, with edging made of French laces, heirloom seamed to each other, wide lowered yoke ruffling on the bodice and pintucking allover. Neck detail is especially nice with a colllar built up be seaming layers of lace to each other, ending in the ruffling ending high and just under the chin. The front
of the bodice has a full blouson style as do the sleeves.
Her underwear is matched: camisole, petticoat and pantaloons--and she is proudly (but demurely!) showing it off to you.
And finally, wearing her black original oilcloth shoes, and looseweave black socks, and a lovely hat to top her off. From top to bottom, she is absolutely gorgeous and you will display her with pride!

is a great example of this mold from a premiere manufacturer!
